A SONG OF PRAISE

A SONG OF PRAISE

by LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN
Translated from CH GELLERT by GS DUBOIS

1.Give God the praise,
Exhort with lute and tabor!
Great is His name
And excellent His labor.
All heav'n, all earth His law  obeys,
All heav'n, all earth His law  obeys.

2, When yields the night
Before the lance of morning,
All bend the knee,
Nor hold His word in scorning
Whose  throne is builded in the light,
Whose  throne is builded in the light.

3.What was and is In earth,
or heav'n eternal,
Basks in the glance Of  Him who reigns supernal;
For land and sea and sky are light His,
For land and sea and sky are light His.

4. Art bowed with grief?
He hears thy lamentations.
Trust the in His love Who aids  the woe of nations,
Whose gracious mercy brings relief,
Whose gracious mercy brings relief.

5. Then praises bring
With heav'nly hosts adoring.
Lord God of all, To Thee a prayer is soaring
Of love and faith on Music's  wing,
Of love and faith on Music's  wing.
